Communication · Make yourself understood

Communication skills for founders

Founders spend their days explaining: to customers, teammates, churches and funders. These six lessons practise the parts that matter most, from listening before you advise to a short pitch that shows the vision and the evidence, 15 to 25 minutes each.

A clear, confident founder pitch

Common questions

What makes a good startup pitch?

A problem people care about, a clear approach and honest evidence. Say what exists today, what you tested, what happened and what is still uncertain, and finish with the value you have shown and one clear ask.

How can I explain my idea more clearly?

Listen first and check you have understood before you advise. In writing, give the context, the decision and the next step. In a talk, open with what the audience will gain and use signposts so people can find their way back.
