WHAT YOU WILL PRACTICE
Define a specific first audience and find a plausible place to meet them.
Segment by situation
A useful audience shares a job, a trigger and a constraint. “Everyone with a phone” does not tell you what to say. “Independent bookkeepers preparing monthly client reports” gives you language and context to investigate.
Find an existing gathering place
Look for relevant professional groups, search queries, events, newsletters or communities. Observe the questions and rules before participating. Access to a community does not imply permission to send unsolicited messages.
Start with a learning goal
Your first marketing work should teach you which audience responds and why. Choose a small, relevant group and offer something useful. Record what you learn rather than counting total impressions.
IN PRACTICE · ORIGINAL EXAMPLE
For a reporting tool, start by reading questions from independent bookkeepers about month-end checks. A useful checklist in an appropriate community may teach you more than a broad campaign aimed at all business owners.
Do not mistake the channel you personally enjoy for the place your prospective customers use.
